**SIGN-UP NOW for PORAC INSURANCE - IT'S $9.00 PER PAY PERIOD***
MCDSA Members
As some of you know, and many of you do not know, most MCDSA members do not
have State Disability Insurance (SDI). Some members have purchased AFLAC
insurance plans through MCDSA or The County, but plan options vary. The best
way to find out if you have SDI is to look on your paycheck. I believe it will
list "SDI" and should be .6% of your pay.
What is SDI?
SDI is payroll insurance if you are unable to to work as a result of a non-duty
incident. During that time you can burn sick time, but we all know that sick
time is limited to what you have in your sick leave bank, unless you have
donated to the catastrophic leave bank this year.
Why do most MCDSA members not have SDI?
Apparently, a long time ago, MCDSA members voted to opt out of SDI, which is an
option provided by code.
What can we do to get disability insurance?
What I know we can do is purchase a disability insurance plan through
PORAC from Myers-Stevens & Co. The plan will cost members $19.95 per month,
which works out to $9.00 per pay period. Your MCDSA dues would have to be
adjusted, but MCDSA dues are tax deductible.
Your MCDSA executive board has worked hard on this, so please take advantage of this insurance by signing up.
Current members who did not take advantage of the open enrollment period can still sign-up for this insurance, but will be required to fill out the medical questioner.
New MCDSA members can sign-up for this insurance without filling out the questioner, as long as they turn in the form within 30 days of becoming a MCDSA member.
If you need an application, please email me and I will provide you one.
Thanks,
